All Evaluations will be
held at
Player evaluations are necessary in order to assess each individual player's ability and place them on a team at the appropriate level of competition. CYO divides teams into two levels of competition... American and National. The American team is the more competitive of the two. In order to compete with the other CYO Teams in our League and the Diocese, St. Monica must structure it's teams in this fashion. Players are evaluated based upon their current ability demonstrated at the evaluations, without regard to prior participation on another team. The Boys and Girls Coordinators attend every evaluation and assist the coaches in evaluating the players. When necessary, independent evaluators who are familiar with basketball will be asked to help. Every effort is made by the evaluators to place each player on a team where the player will develop and the team will be able to compete and achieve some success. A player who finds him/herself at too high of a level comes under so much pressure that he/she has no chance to develop whereas a player placed at too low a level becomes bored. In both cases, the players will find it difficult to develop their basketball skills. We want to see each player develop their basketball skills, find success on the court, have fun, and want to come back and play again next year. Players must make every possible effort to attend their scheduled evaluation. If they do not show up, they run the chance of being placed on a team that does not suit his/her abilities. Please visit the CYO Philosophy page for more information. Copyright
